Biography

Was born on November 23, 1961, in Leningrad. In 1984, he received his first higher education from the Leningrad Institute of Aviation Instrumentation. In 1989, he graduated from the Leningrad Institute of Culture (Department of Directing and Acting). In 1990, he founded the independent theatre group Formal Theatre.

In 2001, the Formal Theatre under Andrei Moguchy's direction received the Fringe First Award at the Edinburgh Festival and the Grand Prix of the BITEF (Belgrade International Theatre Festival).

From 2004 to 2013, he worked as a director at the Alexandrinsky Theatre.

In 2013, Andrei Moguchy became the Artistic Director of the Tovstonogov Bolshoi Drama Theatre.

He is a laureate of the National Theatre Award "Golden Mask," the Supreme Theatre Award of St. Petersburg "Golden Sofit," the International Theatre Award "New Theatre Reality," the International K.S. Stanislavsky Theatre Award, and other theatre prizes. He is a recipient of the Medal of the Order "For Merit to the Fatherland" II Degree. In 2018, he was awarded the honorary title of Honored Artist of the Russian Federation. In 2016, A. Moguchy received Letters of Gratitude from the Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation, the Committee for Culture of St. Petersburg, and the Governor of St. Petersburg.
